This position in the ranking produced by the International Congress and Convention Association (ICCA) represented an increase of more than 180% in the number of international congresses carried out in the country, with respect to those registered in 2007, since Argentina went from To host 60 congresses during that year to receive 172 in 2010.
In this way, Argentina is located behind Brazil (with 275 congresses in 2010) in the number of international events held in Latin America.
The meeting tourism Marketing Plan, developed by the National Institute of Tourism Promotion (Inprotur) in 2008, aims to position the country as one of the top 15 world destinations in the international ranking of venues for the realization of international events.
The tourism of meetings includes the organization of congresses, fairs, exhibitions, sporting events, corporate and incentive trips. It is the fastest growing tourist segment in the last decade and exhibits a higher visitor spending than the one thrown by other activities.
In addition, it encourages the expansion of leisure tourism, since, according to the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), about 40% of the visitors of meetings return to the place of destination.

The Minister of Tourism, Francisco Javier Garcia, to publicize the statistics of the Central Bank, has reported that only in April the flow of non-resident visitors was 330.697, which represents a growth of 14.2%, compared to the same month of 2010 , by registering 46.488 additional visitors, while non-resident Dominicans reached a growth of 14.34%, adding 5.014 more visitors.
Garcia said that the growth accumulated in the first four months of this year reached 5.24%, arriving in the country 81.363 tourists more than in the same period of 2010, mostly Americans, according to published daily book.
It has also stated that the successful promotion policy implemented by the Ministry of Tourism and the private sector allowed the highest growth in the sector to be recorded in January-April in the last three years. He recalled that in 2009 and 2010 arrived in the country, airway, 1,643,384 and 1692.186 visitors, compared to the 1,780,234 that arrived in the first quarter of this year by the different airports.
The tourism owner stated that the most important issuing markets that contributed to this growth in April were the USA with 16.381 visitors, France with 4.565, Russia 3.618, Brazil with 3.465 and Germany with 2.925. Other issuing countries that contributed to the growth of 14.2% in April are Argentina with 2.793 visitors, Italy with 2.724, Venezuela with 2.366, Chile with 1.295 and Colombia that contributed 1.224 visitors, he added.
The airport of Punta Cana continued to receive most of the tourists who visited the country in the first four months of this year, reaching the 906.928 non-resident visitors, for 62.17%, which represents an increase of 12.62% relative to the same Period of 2010.
By the International Airport of the Americas reached 17.54%, for a total of 255.865 tourists, followed by Puerto Plata with 11.19%.
