Sun, beach, sand, palms, tropical climate, food and drink that invites you to forget the icy climate beyond the borders… dark bodies, by nature or by technology, handicrafts, T-shirts all the same where what changes is the name of the locality… fishing, Diving, Dolphins, lions, camels, iguanas, zipline, safaris, sightings, golf, nightlife.
To the paradisiacal scenario that contains all the above, it is necessary to add, in the periphery, irregular human settlements that the custom, the antiquity, the necessity of votes or the inevitable inclusion in the urban zone, convert them into colonies where the transport , security and public services are scarce.
Mexico’s problem? It is not, it happens as it was raised at the beginning, in any destination of sun and beach that under the model of development implemented in the second half of the twentieth century made tourism the industry without chimneys and one of the most constant sources of currencies , of direct and indirect employment, but above all of hopes for those who do not find, at their place of origin, an alternative of subsistence, stability or growth.
But what can we do to reverse this fateful trend? What do we have left to do, to say, to think?
On September 8th, the 2nd Water Forum was held that summoned officials, academics, researchers, businessmen and members of civil organizations from Los Cabos, Baja California Sur, to give their opinion and experience on water on topics ranging from Potable, the residual, which is obtained by desalination, as well as the management of water resources, governance, use and abuse, and ideas and projects to confront and mitigate scarcity.
In this sense, from my role as a teacher, but also as an inhabitant of this environmentally vulnerable tourist community, talked on what to do: teach, disseminate and raise scenarios and proposals for solutions from the perspective of teaching and activism Social proactive, which occurs in classrooms, libraries and schoolyards.
My participation lasts a little less than 30 minutes and goes from Genesis to the Apocalypse of a tourist destination. When fate reaches us
As the world changes, societies evolve and man adapts to new circumstances. The human being modifies his form of existence, as well as his yuris and interests, mechanisms of adaptation and form of survival, that are manuels to the new realities of each epoch. With the social changes come the environmental and what was a priority for a past society, could differ with what interests the people who live in modernity.
Global warming, depletion of certain natural resources, overpopulation and depredation of the environment are some of the yuris that keep the 21st century man in a state of caution, a reality that comes with for years and that began Glimpse since the last century. Foreseeing the consequences and beginning to perceive the ravages on the planet by the hand of the man, the logging of trees, pollution of the environment, water and earth, the erosion of the soil, the decrease of natural resources or the lack of green spaces, avasallados by the Called The Asphalt Jungle, among many other examples of the predatory action that humanity has exerted on the planet, the mind of man decides to reflect his reality and reflect on it, to explore answers, sometimes under the scientific gaze, in Others in their artistic manifestation. Some of these ways of doing it is through the creation of fictions, in literature, film, radio and television.
When Destiny reaches Us (USA, 1973) is one of those ways of analysis and awareness. The film is set in the near future as the year 2022, (a half-century of when he imagined but barely less than a decade of our present) when, it is assumed, overpopulation and scarcity of resources lead man to live in a society without CONTR OL , without order and struggling to live a day, a daily reality in the face of extreme misery in which millions of beings today live in the world.
The social classes in this dystopian reality are too marked because the system has divided and distanced the rich from the poor, while in the world in general decreases space, food, water and employment, to mention the clearest. Because of this reality, people live, for example, in the halls of the buildings or in the street itself, and the food as such is a luxury that only a few could afford, leading the majority of the population to consume a product called “Soylent “.
